Background:
I started playing music in band playing the trumpet. This opened my musical ear to all sorts of music: jazz, classical, and contemporary pieces (such as those fond in movie themes.) This continued through the end of my college career when I graduated with a degree in Music Education from the University of South Dakota. I learned many things in my study that I have incorporated and applied to my songwriting over the years.
My experience with the guitar began when I was about 12. I picked up my dads guitar and started teaching myself some chords. I really pursued playing after I hearing Jimi Thing by the Dave Matthews Band, I just had to learn that song. From there I started learning everything I heard including songs from my influences list. I also started playing on the worship band at church, instilling my abilities in my faith.
As a freshman in high school, a friend signed me up for the talent show without me knowing. This would be the first time that I would play in front of a crowd, playing and singing. From there I was hooked, and have loved sharing my musical ideas with people since. Whether it be through songs that I write or just my interpretation of songs I listened to growing up.
As a freshman in college I got together with some guys that wanted to do a project (record.) This was my first time recording, but it was with some guys that I had done a talent show with in my later high school years. (who also became to be known as Quartus.) Corey Heaton & Risty Bryce really began to push me in writing and recording, in a good way. Since that time my style has evolved into my own incorporating my influences in jazz, blues, rock, folk, pop & funk. This style seems to be enjoyed by a vast demographic & it makes it all worth it when you can see people effected and influenced by something you wrote.

Guitarist/Vocalist Eric Haitz, at the age of 14 picked up the guitar and briefly studied with Jim Hollins, an inventive guitarist from the area. Playing in garage bands through high school performing in various venues, and talent shows he developed an ear for music and a love of performing. Eric also lead worship at his church playing guitar and bass throughout high school.
Eric then joined Katty Wompus with current Quartus bassist Corey Heaton, a band that was clearly a Sioux City favorite. He enjoyed the rush of performing live and the creativity of collaborating with band mates to create songs people love. For two and a half years he played with the band, often playing at clubs, bars and restaurants. Katty Wompus, later renamed to Jacob's Ladder opened for such bands as Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers (former members of the Gin Blossoms and the Refreshments), and Grammy award winners All-4-One.
Eric has a degree in Band Instrument Repair at WITCC studying under Rod Siljenberg, who also taught him guitar repair. He now works for the Omaha Public Schools as a Guitar/Band Instrument Repair Technician. Eric and his wife Rhonda have 2 children. Eric is very excited to be onboard with Quartus and ready to add whatever he can to the already thriving band.

Geoff Boyer - Drums, Percussion

Geoff was born in Brookfield, WI on February 25, 1977. Geoff grew up mostly as an athlete and "thought" he didn't have the time to play an instrument which now he totally regrets!!! However, Geoff still pretended to be a drummer around the age of 8 or 9. Geoff would gather up his father's free weights and place them on a table and bang away! He would use the 2.5lbs weights as his splash cymbals and the 10lbs weights for the crashes. Fast forwarding 10 years...at the age of 19 Geoff truly listened to Carter Beauford from the Dave Matthews Band... and he was floored!! He said the himself, "I could do that!" A day or so later he purchased his first kit and taught himself to play. Geoff played in various bands during his college years, one being a band called Hot Lunch in Des Moines, IA. That was a 9-piece funk band. They covered songs from Stevie Wonder and Liquid Soul to Steely Dan and Maceo Parker.
After a few years of playing Geoff moved to San Francisco where he actually put his college degree into work and unfortunately put his drumsticks down. Some years had passed before Geoff caught the drumming bug again and when he caught it he caught it BIG TIME! Before leaving San Francisco Geoff was playing in 3 different bands. The link provided below are some recordings that Naked Animated did in the studio last year. One of the other bands was a classic rock cover band. Between the 3 bands Geoff was playing about 20-30 hours a week in rehearsal and gigs.
Geoff currently lives in Omaha, Nebraska with his wife, Jill. He and his wife have been living in Omaha since November of 2008.

It all began in third grade when I was forced to play piano in order to be able to play percussion. It was a rule at my school that beginning percussionists have at least two years of piano lessons. In fourth grade, I began to play the bass violin in orchestra. It didnt take long to realize the bass guitar was very similar. In sixth grade, my eyes were open to a whole new world of musical possibilities when I started playing bass in jazz band. I really liked how there were walking bass lines and so much freedom within the tunes. I also started playing around with the drum set in sixth grade. In seventh grade, I picked up my dads old acoustic guitar and got a chord chart poster from Wal-Mart and started teaching myself guitar. While at East High School, I continued playing bass, percussion, and guitar in concert band, jazz band, drum line, orchestra, and show choir band. I sang in the JV show choir my freshman year, and made it into the varsity show choir (The Headliners) for my last three years. I also started playing at fairs around the tri state area. In 2006, my friend and I won the South Dakota Youth Talent contest, and then in 2007 we made it to the semi finals at the Iowa State Fair. After I graduated from high school, I decided to join the 147th Army Band in the South Dakota National Guard. I have learned a lot from this group and have had great playing experiences. I am currently going to school at the University of South Dakota with a major in Contemporary Media and Journalism and a minor in music.

Pretty much all eras of jazz. Trumpet players- Tom Harrell, Woody Shaw, Lee Morgan, Clifford Brown. I am also influenced by many soul bands of the 60s and 70s including the horn sections of Tower of Power, James Brown, Earth Wind and Fire, and Stevie Wonder just to name a few. I also enjoy some bluegrass, funk, early country, blues and of course rock.
My dad was a jazz bass player and a school band director-so I was immersed in music. I started playing trumpet in 4th grade and havent stopped. I registered for college at South Dakota State University as an pre-engineering major, but found myself spending more time at the music department performing in as many ensembles as I could and hangin out with musicians instead of math geeks-I couldnt cut the math anyway! I soon had my education degree and decided to get my masters in music at Wisconsin. I was incredibly fortunate to have studied jazz improv and arranging with trombone great and Maynard Ferguson alum Steve Wiest (name dropping)-current University of North Texas-Grammy nominated One OClock Lab Band Director.
I currently live in Sioux City with my wife Kristen and son Garner. Garners siblings, Jackie, Jordan and Julia live in Reno, Nevada with their mom.

Born in New London, CT and a native of Pittsburgh, PA, GREG PFLUGH is the newest addition to Quartus. Gregs career performing music has taken him across the world, playing in thirteen countries including the continental United States, Canada, destinations in the Caribbean Sea, the Mediterranean coast, and Japan. Greg holds a Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance from Youngstown State University located in Youngstown, OH.
While living in Ohio, Greg worked as a saxophonist and bass guitarist at Cedar Point Amusement Park from 2002 to 2004 and as an audio engineer for Rising Sun Entertainment and Productions. Following his studies at YSU he got his first touring opportunity and served as saxophonist, assistant road manager, and audio engineer for the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra from 2004 to 2008, and can be heard on the bands latest album entitled Steppin Out which was recorded live on the air over XM radio in 2005. After leaving the Glenn Miller Orchestra in 2008, Greg worked as a musician playing saxophone and woodwinds for Norwegian Cruise Lines prior to his enlistment in the United States Air Force in April of 2009.
Greg is currently a member of the USAF Heartland of America Band stationed at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha, NE and is an often-featured soloist and the tour director for The Noteables jazz ensemble. Greg is also a busy freelance musician in the Omaha area participating in many projects of varying genres.
In his spare time, Greg enjoys running, cycling, taking road trips, reading Calvin and Hobbes comics, watching The Office, and playing bass guitar. Greg is thrilled to be a part of Quartus and hopes to contribute everything that he can to an already amazing band!
